Print Framing Guide

You’ve ordered a print, now how will you frame it? Here are some of my favorite easy-to-assemble frames that beautifully complement both paper and canvas prints.

Note: this guide also works well for original paintings if you don't like the original frame in which it was delivered.

Paper Print Frames

My paper art prints are printed edge-to-edge, giving you flexibility in how you frame them. You can place the print directly into a frame to fill the entire space for a bold, modern look, or add a mat for a refined, gallery-style border that brings an extra layer of sophistication

Custom Framing

If you’d like to explore custom framing, I recommend visiting a local framer to see all your options. If that feels a bit pricey, check out Hobby Lobby—they run 50% off custom framing every other week, making it more affordable than you might expect!

Stretched Canvas Frames

My canvas prints come with finished edges and are ready to hang as-is, but if you’d like to elevate the look, I recommend adding a float frame. Float frames highlight the 1.5" depth of the canvas without covering the surface or placing it behind glass—which can mute the texture and color. They give the artwork space to “breathe” while making it stand out beautifully in your home. Every canvas and original painting already comes with hanging hardware, and most float frames include the screws and parts needed for easy assembly.

Note: I do offer a "natural" wood framed stretch canvas option on my print listings in case you want your print to arrived framed and ready t hang.

FAQs: Prints + Framing

Do I need to frame my art print right away?

Not necessarily! Paper prints should be framed fairly soon to protect them from dust, scratching, and bending. Canvas prints arrive stretched and ready to hang, but adding a frame is a great way to elevate the look.

What kind of frame works best for paper prints?

My paper prints are printed edge-to-edge, so you have options:

- fill the frame for a bold, contemporary look.
- for a classic, elevated style with a clean border.

What’s a float frame, and why use one for canvas?

Float frames are designed specifically for stretched canvas. They leave a small gap around the edges so the depth of the canvas shows without covering any part of the artwork. This creates a gallery-style finish that feels polished but not heavy.

Can I frame a stretched canvas print myself?

Yes! If you’re handy, you can easily order a float frame online (see recommendations above) or from a local framing shop and install it yourself. However, for a perfectly snug fit and professional finish, custom framing is always a great option.

Do I need glass or plexiglass in the frame?

Paper prints: Yes, glass or plexiglass will protect the surface. Use UV-protective options if possible.

Canvas prints: No—canvases are meant to “breathe” and don’t require glass.

What should I pick—Paper or Canvas?

Paper Prints

  • Typically more affordable, making them a great entry point for collecting art.
  • Paper must be framed behind glass or plexiglass, which gives you lots of flexibility in frame style and color to match your home.
  • Paper can be matted, which creates a clean, elevated border many people love for a sophisticated look.

Canvas Prints

  • Canvas prints are printed on the same textured canvas material as an original painting, so they feel closer to the real thing.
  • Canvas prints arrive stretched and ready to hang, no frame required (though a float frame adds an elegant finish).
  • Their depth (1.5–2" off the wall) gives them presence and a gallery-style feel that can make a room feel more polished and grand.
  • Great if you want a statement piece that instantly fills a space.

👉 Quick Tip:

  • paper if you want affordability, framing flexibility, or the option to add matting for a timeless look.

  • canvas if you want something bold, dimensional, and closest in feel to an original painting.
